a5c7b9f00b Set in 2013, after the war has destroyed most of USA, including the government. A solitary traveler is captured by a fascist military group called the Holnists led by Hitler-like General Bethlehem. When he escapes from the Holnists he finds an abandoned mail Jeep and uniform, and starts to travel through small cities, telling them he is a postman, a representative of the restored United States. No one believes him at first, but soon he has followers, and they start to prepare a revolt against Holnists. 2013,Post-Apocalyptic America. An unnamed wanderer retrieves a Postman's uniform and undelivered bag of mail. He decides to posea postman and deliver the mail to a nearby town, bluffing that the United States government has been reinstated and tricking the town into feeding him. However, he reluctantly becomes a symbol of hope to the townspeople there who begin to remember the world that once was and giving them the courage to stand up to a tyrannical warlord and his army. Kevin Costner is getting the shaft and I'd like to know why. What higher-ups in the industry and critics circle has he ****ed off to deserve such treatment?

I saw "The Postman" twice on video, so I'm sure I got a clear opinion of the movie. Though it was 3 hours long, the story moved along well enough that I didn't notice the time.

The acting was very good, and there were many good small roles. The story is original, interesting and plausible. The futuristic scenarios are believable. Costner's character is not a super-hero and his good deeds are not super-human. He's a likeable hero. The costumes and sets are elaborately wrought and feel realistic. There are moving moments throughout the film, and the end is not entirely predictable.

That said, the movie does have a few weaknesses, but "The Postman" is nowhere nearheinoussome of the other crap of 1997 which was heralded by the critics. There was an unexplained abundance of electricity available to the people in the film, many of whom were otherwise poverty-stricken. There were some gratuitously patriotic lines (but restoring America is what the film was about, after all). And there are a couple scenes that linger a bit too long on the Kodak moment-ness of it all.

But these things are all easily overlooked in favor of an entertaining film. I was drawn in from the start and was eager to find out how it would unfold. This film did not deserve the vicious treatment it received, and everyone should give it a fair shake and form their own opinion about it. people need to take this movie for what it is. its yet another post apocalypse movie but not halfbadsome of the others out there. people wanna get into things like how did they conquer the United States on horseback well its post apocalypse there are no vehicles so they use horses and also they conquered with brute forcethere was no army to fight back. when someone finally did fight back they overcame them. i took this movie for what it was. had some good up and coming actors and also some established acting veterans. kevin costner does an OK jobthe reluctant hero and it was a nice change to see a hero just trying to exist instead of being the token badass you get in so many other films of this type. all in all worth a view. The Postman isn'tatrociousthe inane trailers and media hype have indicated, but like "Waterworld" a lot of the prerelease scrutiny is well warranted. Aside from condensing storylines, the film also eliminates a number of characters and science fiction elements from the story. A significant plotline in the book is the efforts of scientists at Corvallis, Oregon to use an artificially intelligent supercomputer to help rebuild society. Similarly, in the book the leaders of the Holnists are super soldiers who were experimented on by the military in order to augment their strength and speed. The film also eliminates the "Squire of Sugarloaf" a leader of a local community who the Postman tries to enlist to help in the fight against the Holnists 1998. 15 years earlier. The film is set in 2013. Yes. It would had gone stale and rotten, after being uneaten for many years and it would had made The Postman really sick. No. Days of Our Lives and Monday Night Football was in The Postman's mind. Michael had the viral disease Mumps since he was 12 years old, which is a common childhood disease and causes a rare permanent loss of fertility in adult males. Yes he did. 2 years earlier, Kevin Costner starredThe Mariner in 1995's Waterworld. Yes. Lily Costner is Irene March's granddaughter Lily. Joe Costner is the Letter Boy, whom The Postman takes his letter, when riding past his house and Annie Costner is Ponytail, the US postal service carrier, whom finds The Postman and Abby and brings them to the US postal service HQ. Abby mentions that when she was Bethlehem's prisoner, he tried several times to rape her. However, he couldn't "perform". This may suggest that he was actually homosexual, but was desperate to try and father an heir, despite him not being attracted to women. It's also possible he was simply impotent. As he blames Abby and beats her for his lack of arousal.
